Tune into Ready, Steady, Go this Thursday from 4-5pm as Laura Burhenn (formerly of the indie duo Georgie James) comes in-studio to talk about her new project The Mynabirds! The band’s debut album What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood (Saddle Creek Records) is being hailed by Pitchfork Media as “Full blown country and soul with a set of bold, assured songs so elegantly composed that many could pass for old standards.” Listen in as Laura plays songs from the album, spins some of her favorite records, and talks about the band’s upcoming show at The Basement on June 10th.

This past Saturday, WRVU traveled down to Murfreesboro to take on MTSU's radio station WMTS in the 3rd Annual Kickball Showdown. There was plenty of food, fun, and competition. In this year's battle, WRVU started out strong with a 5-2 lead, then WMTS stepped up their game and took the next 5 points. At the end, WRVU came home with a respectable 7-5 loss, but the team made our station proud. Pictures documenting the festivities are after the jump!

Seagulls Over Nashville are squawking about the upcoming Joanna Newsom concert Sunday March 28th @ the Mercy Lounge. The Gulls would like to send you and a friend to the concert for free! This Saturday (Jan. 30th) there will be a meeting for those who are interested in training to become a WRVU DJ! The meeting is in Sarratt Cinema in the Student Center at 5pm, so please come if you're interested and hear about what it takes to become a DJ. If you cannot attend and are still interested in training this semester, make sure to contact our Training Director, Michael, at wrvutd (at) gmail (dot) com, and he'll give you all the info you need and set you up for training!

It's a busy week here at WRVU, so here is an extra big helping of what's going on at the station these days... WRVU on the Wall is back! Tomorrow from 12:00 to 1:00 on the Wall at Rand, come and listen to Jambalaya Jam's DJ Sarah and DJ Mikil bringing the best of contemporary folk!
