Major: I attended Vanderbilt 1980-1984 with an English major and got a master’s in Library Science from Vanderbilt in 1987
Had a show since: January 2000
Description of your show: Jump blues, classic R&B (from the late 30’s to the early 60’s), jazz, and early, unbleached rock and roll
Top 5 Albums: A lot of the recordings I like, and most of those I play on my regular show, come from times when albums where either nonexistent or just a way to re-market songs previously released on singles, so I don’t think much in terms of albums. Here are a few I like a lot but that aren’t representative of my show: “Modern Lovers” by Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, “Fun House” by the Stooges, “Album Generic” by Flipper, “Double Nickels on the Dime” by the Minutemen, “Dixie Fried” by James Luther Dickinson
Favorite Artist: HA! Name just one! Big joke! One lesser-known musician whom I have a particular fondness for is Richard Berry, who is probably best known for writing and first recording “Louie Louie” but made lots of other great records
Least Favorite Artist: Even harder to mention just one of these. Journey would be right up there (I am old enough to have suffered through their “prime”). Eric Clapton is someone I’ve always thought vastly overrated.

Most played song on your music player: I don’t do them things.
Random fact about yourself: I like to sneak on the radio from time to time and play music that doesn’t really fit on Nashville Jumps. When there’s a hole in the schedule, I sometimes volunteer to plug it with a show called “Rock and Roll Rent Control,” on which you might hear anything, as long as it’s something I like.
What instrument had you better like if you’re going to listen to my show?: Saxophones
What musical concept needs to make a comeback?: Swing (the rhythmic quality, not the genre)
What do many people assume incorrectly about your show?: That I play old vinyl (or, as I like to call it, phonograph records). It’s actually 99.9999% CD’s. It’s amazing what you can get on reissue CDs.
